♠ Toronto · October 2026
Sharp notes on every regulated Canadian casino.
One desk, one register: the regulated rooms Canadians can play in, ranked province by province — AGCO and AGLC country up top, the Crown rooms filed on their own terms. We read the terms, weigh the reported numbers and print the receipts, restrictions and all. Every outbound link is verified by hand before it goes live — and today they’re plain links to the operators’ own sites: the desk earns nothing when you click.

♦ Inside the guide
Six rooms of the house.
The desk keeps six drawers. Pick one — every page carries the same scores, the same receipts, and everything re-checked monthly.
The Regulated Register
Every province, ranked by rules. Ontario and Alberta get the full board; the Crown-monopoly provinces get the honest label: one room, listed on its own terms.
Enter the register →Reviews — the file cabinet
Full dossiers plus every provincial filing: verdict, metrics and scores, province by province.
Open the cabinet →Promos — the wire
Current regulated offers, filed with the actual catch and when the desk last checked. Figures appear here only when verified against the operator’s own terms.
Read the tickets →House Edge Exclusives
Offers negotiated for this desk’s readers, terms verified and date-stamped. None on file yet — we’ll print the first one the day it’s real.
See the exclusives →Guides — the playbook
Four long reads worth an evening — RTP, payouts, bonus fine print and Canada’s two-speed market.
Read the playbook →Regulatory news
Licences, fines and market briefs — the regulatory file, dated and brief.
Read the file →♦ The Ledger · house-edge calculator
What does your play actually cost?
Pick a game, set your bet size and pace, and see what the house edge costs per hour, week, month and year. Arithmetic, not fortune-telling — any single session swings far wider than the average.
The calculator is arithmetic, not a simulation: it multiplies your bet size, pace and session length by the assumed house edge. Real sessions swing far wider — variance doesn’t read charts.
♣ Frequently asked
Questions the desk answers weekly.
Honest, unsexy answers. If it’s not here, the answer is usually “read the operator’s terms.”
Is online gambling legal in Canada?
Yes — in layers. The federal Criminal Code allows provinces to run and regulate gambling. Ontario launched its regulated iGaming market on 4 April 2022 through iGaming Ontario (a subsidiary of the AGCO), and Alberta opened its regulated market on 13 July 2026 under the AGLC. Other provinces licence a single Crown platform each; the three territories run lotteries only. This register files only the rooms a province has signed for.
What’s the legal age where I live?
19 and up in most provinces, including Ontario and British Columbia. The exceptions are Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, where it’s 18. Every regulated operator verifies identity — and usually age — before your first withdrawal.
Do I have to pay tax on my winnings?
Not in most cases. In Canada, gambling winnings are generally tax-free for recreational players — the CRA doesn’t treat luck as income. The exception is professional gamblers whose gambling constitutes a business: their winnings can be taxable as business income. If you play at serious scale, keep records and talk to an accountant; everyone else can just enjoy the loonie back.
What do you mean by “reported win rate”?
A reported win rate is an average payout percentage published in independent comparative tables (the desk cross-checks casino.ca and casino.org). It’s close kin to RTP: a 97.39% win rate means the operator paid back about C$97.39 for every C$100 wagered, averaged over everything. Treat it as direction — room A is fairer than room B — not as a promise about your Friday night.
Why can’t I see bonus offers advertised in Ontario?
Regulated markets write their own rules. In Ontario and Alberta, regulators keep bonus offers off public advertising pages — they appear inside your account. So our promos page can’t quote the ON/AB versions of offers the way it quotes the Crown provincials: the terms you agree to are the ones on screen when you opt in.
Why does this site only list regulated casinos?
Because a casino is a promise, and we only file promises that come with a complaints path. On every room in this register you can take a dispute to a regulator — the AGCO in Ontario, the AGLC in Alberta, the Crown operator elsewhere — instead of shouting at a support widget. Licensed rooms also carry mandated deposit limits, verification and self-exclusion tools. That’s why the whole shelf is regulated, no exceptions.
Why is BetNova in both the Ontario and the Alberta registers?
Goldrush Alberta Limited’s BetNova opened in Ontario on 9 April 2026 under an AGCO licence, and the same operator sits on the AGLC’s published registrant lists as Goldrush Alberta Limited o/a Betnova. But registered isn’t launched: AiGC still lists BetNova as pending in Alberta, so Alberta players can’t open an account there yet. The desk files it registered-not-live and flips the entry the day it opens.
How fast can I actually get my money out?
Your first withdrawal is usually the slow one: identity verification adds a day or three to everything. After that, the sharpest regulated rooms land Interac payouts in 24–48 hours (BetMGM) or same-day-to-3-day cards (Betway). The desk weights payout windows heavily in the Banking pillar for exactly this reason.
What does “150% up to C$777” actually ask of me?
Three things. First, the match: deposit C$500 and get C$750 in bonus credit, capped at C$777’s worth of play. Second, the wagering: the figure might read “30×” — on a C$100 bonus that’s C$3,000 of bets before the bonus cash can leave. Third, the scope: “on deposit plus bonus” vs “on the bonus only” multiplies that bill. The full breakdown is in our guide Read a bonus like a lawyer.
How do I keep gambling fun?
Decide the money’s a ticket, not an investment: set a deposit limit before you start, take breaks, use the reality-check popups and never chase a loss — the math doesn’t owe you a comeback. If it stops feeling fun, every province has a helpline; start with ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 (free, 24/7, in 170 languages) or see the full list in Table manners below.
♦ The desk, in plain words
How we work
We’re an independent desk. We read the terms, weigh the reported figures, and publish what we find — good or bad for the operator.
We don’t push anyone to gamble, anywhere. If you choose to play, you deserve the true numbers first. That’s why this site is built around tools — the compare board, the RTP calculator — not hype.
Our money will come from affiliate links, disclosed wherever they appear. Today, every outbound link is a plain link to the operator’s official site — we earn nothing from your click. As deals are signed, affiliate links swap in one casino at a time, through the same map. But no one buys a score, a rank, or a verdict. Figures re-checked monthly; scores never for sale.
♦ How the desk tests
Five pillars. Zero press releases.
Scores are a weighted composite of five pillars. Trust is the heaviest because a casino is, above all, a promise.
| Pillar | What it covers | Weight | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Games | Library depth, studios, live casino, mobile build | 20% | |
| Bonuses | Headline value, wagering fairness, clarity of terms | 20% | |
| Banking | Payout speed, rails available, limits, verification friction | 20% | |
| Support | Responsiveness, hours, Canadian readiness | 15% | |
| Trust | Licensing, operating history, public record, transparency | 25% |
Read the operator’s terms first
Bonus terms, withdrawal rules and identity checks are pulled from the operator’s own pages before anything else. The T&C is the dossier.
Cross-check the numbers
Win rates, game counts and payout windows are compared against independent tables (including casino.ca and casino.org) and re-checked monthly. Conflicts are printed as conflicts.
Rule-check every province
Licensing and bonus exclusions are verified against provincial status: AGCO/iGO in Ontario, AGLC in Alberta. An offer that skips your province is marked, never implied.
Verify links by hand
Every outbound link is opened and confirmed by a human before it earns a place. Copycat “official” domains are real; unverified links stay in the pending tray until they’re proven — one brand is still waiting there, with no live Canadian site yet.
How The House Edge makes money — the plain version
Today, every outbound link on this site is a plain link to the operator’s official website — clicking out earns The House Edge nothing. As affiliate deals are signed, those links swap in one casino at a time; from then on, clicking through may earn us a commission. That money funds the desk. It never moves a rank: scores are set before links exist, and weighted the same whether a link pays us or not.
Affiliate links, once they exist, carry rel="sponsored nofollow" labelling so search engines and readers both know the deal; plain links carry a plain rel="nofollow". Every slot is marked plainly — verified links go live; the rest sit in the pending tray until each URL is hand-verified. One brand sits there now: Vegas Club Casino, whose official site isn’t live in Canada yet.
♥ Table manners · responsible play
The house rules that actually matter.
Gambling is entertainment with a price tag, not an income plan. Set money limits before you start, take breaks, never chase a loss — and if it stops being fun, the lines below are free, confidential and answered by people who help.
- Deposit limits are easy to set and almost impossible to regret — set yours before you play.
- Take regular breaks; the longer the session, the more the edge works on you.
- Chase losses with anything except your wallet: a walk, a show, a phone call.
- Self-exclusion tools exist on every licensed platform — use them early, not late.
- Helplines are for “I’m not sure” too, not just for emergencies.
- Treat bonuses as entertainment credit with a bill attached, not free money.
