ALBERTA / 11 OCTOBER 2026Supreme Court hears Ontario’s cross-border poker case, reserves decision
On October 7, the Supreme Court of Canada heard arguments on whether Ontario can let regulated online poker players compete against players outside the province. Alberta intervened on Ontario’s side. The court reserved judgment; a ruling is expected in early to mid 2027.
What it means for players
Nothing changes yet — Alberta poker pools stay ring-fenced until the court rules. An Ontario win could open the door to shared liquidity between provinces, meaning bigger tournaments down the road.
