The market snapshot

MLB’s 3 October postseason outlook listed Los Angeles at +220, Milwaukee +475, New York at +500, Tampa Bay +800, San Diego and Atlanta at +900, Chicago at +1300 and Cleveland at +1400. These are historical prices, not current offers. Odds move after every result, injury and pitching announcement.

What a C$100 bet would return

At +220, a winning C$100 Dodgers bet would return C$320: C$220 profit plus the C$100 stake. Milwaukee at +475 would return C$575. The Yankees at +500 would return C$600. Tampa Bay at +800 would return C$900. A +1400 Cleveland ticket would return C$1,500. The bigger return reflects a lower estimated chance, not better value by itself.

Why Milwaukee stands out

The Brewers finished 103–59, the best record in baseball, and won the National League Central by 14 games. They have appeared in one World Series, in 1982, and have never won the title.

Chicago’s long climb

The White Sox opened at very long odds at some sportsbooks and reached the final eight at about +1000. Playoff prices can change quickly because health, current form and a short series matter more than they do over a 162-game season.

Turn American odds into probability

Positive American odds convert with 100 divided by the odds plus 100. +220 therefore implies 31.25%. +475 implies 17.39%, and +1400 implies 6.67%. An implied probability is the sportsbook price expressed as a percentage; it is not a guarantee.

Where the sportsbook margin appears

The implied probabilities for all eight prices add to about 110.2%, not 100%. That extra amount is the overround. It is a simple way to see that the market contains a margin before results are known.

About these numbers

Historical prices come from sportsbook listings checked on the date above. Current odds can change at any time and differ by site. This article is information, not a betting recommendation.

Sources and method

Historical odds can differ by sportsbook and time. Payout examples assume a winning C$100 stake.
