Supreme Court hears Ontario’s cross-border poker case, reserves decision

On October 7, the Supreme Court of Canada heard arguments on whether Ontario can let regulated online poker players compete against players outside the province. The court reserved judgment; a ruling is expected in early to mid 2027.

What it means for players

Nothing changes yet — Ontario poker pools stay ring-fenced until the court rules. If Ontario wins, shared liquidity could eventually mean bigger tournaments and fuller cash games; if it loses, province-only pools remain.
