RTP, house edge and variance

A long-run percentage cannot predict your next session.

RTP is theoretical

Return to player describes a game’s theoretical long-run return under specified rules. An RTP of 96% corresponds to a 4% house edge. It is not a promise to return 96% of a deposit.

Turnover matters

If you stake $2 on 400 rounds, turnover is $800 even if the same money is recycled through wins. At a 4% edge, the theoretical average loss on that turnover is $32.

Variance changes the experience

Two games with the same RTP can have very different swings. Short sessions can lose much more or win substantially; RTP does not protect a budget.

Check the game configuration

Read the paytable for the exact game you are playing. Different configurations or rule sets may change the theoretical return. An operator-wide historical payout percentage is not a game RTP.
